A Cinematic Look at Time Travel

Project

Celebrating the perfect plot device

A Cinematic Look at Time Travel combines 2 things I love—exploring new coding techniques + thinking way too hard about time travel movies. This infographic uses slick JavaScript animations to examine the versatility of time travel as a plot device.

Design + code

Under the hood

This infographic compares 5 of my favorite time travel movies—Back to the Future, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Looper, and Avengers: Endgame. I designed and coded the page using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It features:

  • JavaScript animations using the GreenSock Animation Platform (GSAP)
  • Scrolling interactions using the ScrollMagic JavaScript library
  • Responsive design
  • Custom illustrations
  • Cheesy futuristic fonts
  • Interactive quiz to test your knowledge of movie quotes

Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me that you built a time machine...out of a DeLorean?

— Marty McFly, Back to the Future

Special thanks

Many thanks to General Assembly instructor Ramsey Lanier for his JavaScript guidance. To Rebecca Ostrich for her endless CSS knowledge. And to Paravel’s The Many Faces Of, which gave me loads of laughs and inspiration.
